Cool video and some photos from my recent research trip to Antarctica.
We stopped at the Chilean González Videla Antarctic Base in Paradise Harbour where I was able to shoot the nice video of the dilapidated structure which is actually an amazing piece of Antarctic architectural heritage and at an Antarctic Treaty historic site.
This shack features the remnants of a converted whaleboat shelter Thomas Bagshawe and M.C. Lester wintered in and lived at for over a year. Bagshawe and Lester, who were members of The British Imperial Antarctic Expedition 1920–1922, decided to stay over the winter and were the smallest party of people to ever winter over on the Antarctic continent.
During this stay, Bagshawe wrote a study on penguin breeding, measured tidal patterns, and took various weather observations.
I am working on a YouTube video which hopefully I can share as well soon…

Here are the photos as well! First is from the Chilean base, second a historic photo of the original whaleboat shelter, third a shot across the water of the old structure from a similar vantage point of my video.
