During 2023, I had the wonderful pleasure of visiting the German Mining Museum in Bochum. I could not recommend a place more. My initial view was that it would have been considered to be downright boring. Rather, I was blown away by the high quality of cultural materials, diagrams, and the still-preserved coal mines borrowing deep into the German earth. When you think about it, pyrotechnical materials are one of the only resources which are preserved in the archaeological record. Of course, the production, distribution, and consumption of metals must therefore be a largely collected, as well as an important consideration towards all past societies, including ours today. If you ever find yourself in Germany, take some time to go to the museum.
